Another Trick / Un Autre Truc

J'avais deux heures hier pour visiter les magasins de tissu de Rennes.

Dans un des magasin, une vendeuse préparait une vitrine et elle avait tracé son patron sur une mince feuille de plastique avec un marqueur permanent.

C'est génial! On peut de cette manière tracer des patrons Burda facilement. On peut épingler, agraffer ou scotcher puis essayer. Je vais trop essayer ça bientôt.

I had a couple of hours yesterday to visit fabric stores in Rennes. 

In one of the store, a shop attendant was making a display and she had traced her pattern on a thin sheet of plastic with a permanent marker. 

This is brilliant! You can trace Burda patterns easily, you can pin it, staple it or tape it and try it on. I am so going to do this soon.

Remember Vogue 9134?

I started it in March, made a pretty good muslin then lost the momentum as spring was in the air.

Nine months later, I forgot all the alterations I made to the muslin and had to start again, almost... I worked around that by tracing the muslin's seam lines with a marker and cutting right on it then transferred that information onto my pattern piece. 

I am not proud of this, it's sloppy and I'm afraid it'll lead to construction problems. I might make another muslin before I cut the fashion fabric because this is making me nervous.

So, my sewing tip for you today is : write some notes somewhere, anywhere, on a separate piece of paper, on the muslin, on the pattern, wherever. You never know.

Je l'ai commencé en mars, j'ai fait une jolie toile puis, avec l'arrivée imminente du printemps, j'ai perdu mon élan.

Neuf mois plus tard, j'ai oublié toutes les altérations que j'ai fait à la toile et j'ai dû tout recommencer, presque... j'ai tracé les coutures sur ma toile avec un gros marqueur et j'ai coupé sur la marque puis j'ai transféré le tout sur mon patron. 

C'est une solution un peu brouillon et je n'en suis pas très fière. Je ferai peut-être une autre toile avant de couper le tissu de confection parce que ça me rend nerveuse.

Alors mon conseil du jour c'est : prenez des notes quelque part, n'importe où, sur une feuille, sur votre toile, sur le patron, sur l'enveloppe du patron, on ne sait jamais.

Scrap Busting Part 1 / Accommoder Les Restes Vol 1

What do you do with your scraps? How big does a scrap needs to be for you to keep it?

As a rule of thumb, I will keep anything that's big enough to make a pencil case, the problem being that  I never make them so the scraps keep piling up! What's you scrap management strategy?

I bought a lot of fabric for the Aloha shirts because I wanted them to be perfect so I was left with quite a big chunk of blue and I thought I could eek out a pair of pyjama pants out of the leftovers.

I barely did. I had to patch one of the leg (see above) and taper the inside leg (see below) to make way for the crotch. I also made them extremely low waisted and extra small, which means that if I gain any weight, they won't fit. That's ok, I certainly have a niece who has slimmer hips that I do.

I printed Butterick's free pattern (4 pieces), Simplicity has one too (2 pieces) and if you need a tutorial, Karen's sew along is your thing.

Qu'est-ce que vous faites avec vos restes? Pour que vous gardiez un bout de tissu, il faut qu'il fasse quelle taille?

En règle générale, je garde tout ce qui est assez grand pour faire un étui à crayon, le problème étant que je ne les fais jamais et que j'accumule. Quelle est votre stratégie à ce sujet?

J'ai acheté un gros métrage pour faire les chemisettes hawaïennes parce que je voulais qu'elles soit parfaites et je croyais avoir assez de tissu pour me faire un pantalon de pyjama.

Ou presque, j'ai rapiécé une jambe (voir ci-haut) et j'ai aminci la jambe à l'intérieur pour laisser de la place pour l'entre-jambe (voir ci-bas). Je l'ai fait taille basse et extra small ce qui veut dire que si je gagne du poids, je vais devoir les offrir à une de mes nièces qui ont la hanche fine.

J'ai utilisé le patron gratuit de chez Butterick (4 pièces de patron), mais il y a aussi le Simplicity (2 pièces) et si vous avez besoin d'un tutoriel, celui de Karen est vraiment bien fait et très compréhensible, même si on ne parle pas anglais.

Je suis prête pour ma prochain soirée pyjama.

The Big Zipper / La Grosse Fermeture

J'ai fait un autre sac à voile cette semaine. 

J'ai posé la plus grosse fermeture éclair que j'ai jamais vu de ma vie! Il m'en reste un petit bout et je me demande bien ce que je vais en faire...mais je vais trouver!

I made another sailbag this week. 

I got to sew the biggest zipper I have ever seen. I have a little bit left, let see what I can do with that!
