Get your Kleenex / Sortez Vos Mouchoirs

I will show any kid how to sew when they ask.
My neighbor, Mme Lavoie, showed me how to follow a pattern when I was 14, I owe her so much. It's my way of giving back. And, knowing how to operate a sewing machine is one of these little things that will make your life easier, like using a drill or a hammer, it's really cool to be self sufficient in the DIY department.
You guys won't remember this because nobody read this blog back then but 3 years ago, Morgane, 14 at the time, came every morning for 3 weeks, watched me make a dress and cut a Burda jacket. She made a handbag and a shirred dress and her parents bought her a sewing machine for Christmas and she kept at it. I did recognize in her some of the qualities it takes to become a real good seamstress : extreme patience, some stubbornness, some pickiness and a steady hand.  I finished my blog post wishing her "a gazillion little perfect stitches and hundreds of well-worn handmade garments". I didn't know...
That she would drop by to tell me she got into L'École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture de Paris.
Can you imagine how I felt? Probably. Did I cry? Abundantly. Did we celebrate? Of course. Did I have to repress pangs of jealousy? Ah! Come on! It's a free school if you are young, you gain access to the best fashion design and sewing knowledge in the world, their alumni is frigging awesome, she'll be an apprentice at a tailor's, even the school looks great, of course I was a little envious! But I was so happy for her and so proud that she found inspiration at my house that it didn't last long.
Please join me in whishing Morgane all the best. Live long and sew well.
