Comfortable / Confortable Burda 01/2013 #116

There is comfort food and there is comfort sewing.
Burda 01/2013 #116 falls into that category and is perfect for watching Sandra Betzina go on about pant fitting.
I made it with the stretch velour I put aside for Butterick 6135. The only modification was to reduce the waistband's width because, you know, I'm not model tall.
I have a question for you this morning : do you have any tips for serging straight? Every time I serge long seams I have a mishap. In this case, I don't care much because the only light this skirt will ever see is when I take the garbage to the curb, but if I can avoid it, I'll take the advice.
Do you baste? machine baste? mark? serge slow? Do tell.

Dîtes-moi.

  1. You are adorable, I love your sense of humor! If you need a little help to serging, maybe draw a straight line with a chalk pencil before going to your serger ... this is quick and will help avoid twisting the way. Happy week, dear friend.

  2. Those look super comfy.
My advice would be to just go slow.

  3. My serger finishes the edges but does not produce a straight stitch. (Maybe yours is different?)
In any case, I sew the straight stitch first and finish with serger after that.
Even if I go fast (which I always do), it never goes astray. Makes me think whether your foot and guide are both aligned well.

On another note - I came over from sewingadict's blog. I was so impressed with the red dress I saw there. Great work!
