Before I Leave / Avant de Partir

Remember the cargo-harem pants? 

I wanted to finish them before leaving, I traced the pattern in June but some more work came in. My neighbor is really happy about them and I'm really happy because I've learned a new set of skills from the Jean-ius Craftsy class and my neighbor is a plumber and a DJ and we all need a plumber or a DJ at some point in our lives...so he owes me some of his time.

I'm not going to talk about them too much, they were pretty straightforward, because I want to go finish my wrap dress for the Montreal meet up, but I had a lot of fun constructing the little secret stash. 

In this case, pictures are louder than words anyway.

Je voulais le finir avant de partir, j'ai tracé le patron en juin, mais après j'ai eu du boulot. Mon voisin est super content et moi aussi parce que j'ai beaucoup appris du cours Jean-ius de chez Craftsy et mon voisin est plombier et DJ, on a tous besoin d'un plombier ou d'un DJ à un moment dans notre vie...il m'en doit une.

Je vais pas trop en parler, le montage a été assez simple, je veux finir ma robe portefeuille pour la réunion de Montréal, mais j'ai eu pas mal de fun à construire la cachette secrète.

The Montreal Meet-Up / La Réunion de Montréal

I hate to admit this, but I am so jealous when I see all these sewing meet ups where everyone wear their best handmade clothes, I almost flew to London for the last one. 

So when I decided to visit family in Montreal this summer, I asked Vicki Muise of Another Sewing Scientist (the brilliant mind behind Map the Sewinists) if she could survey Montréal seamstresses and see if we could meet.

If you sew and live in Montréal, we are going to meet for lunch on August 17th, wear pretty dresses and chat, maybe swap stuff. If you want to come, leave a comment on Vicki's blog post and she'll tell you the specifics.

Je déteste admettre ceci, mais suis tellement jalouse quand je vois toutes ces réunions de couturières toutes bien habillées de leur vêtements faits main que je suis passée à 2 doigts de prendre un avion pour Londres ce printemps. 

Quand j'ai décidé d'aller visiter ma famille à Montréal cet été, j'ai demandé à Vicki Muise de Another Sewing Scientist (celle qui a eu la brillante idée de créer Map The Sewinists) si elle voulait pas sonder les couturières de Montréal pour savoir si on pouvait se rencontrer.

Si vous cousez et que vous êtes à Montréal, le 17 août on va aller luncher et jaser en portant nos jolies robes et peut-être faire quelques échanges. Vous pouvez confirmer en mettant un petit commentaire sur le blog de Vicki qui par la suite vous donnera les indications pour nous trouver.

The Wrap Dress - Step 5 / La Robe Portefeuille - Étape 5

Without slit / Sans fente

Are you bored yet? I am not, but all this decision making is making me dizzy!

The new muslin looks good.

All good wrap dresses have a slit to let the ties pass through and I am pondering whether I should put one in or not. This would make the ties lie flat in the front and though I have an inkling that it would flatter me more, the less fabric I have right on the waist the better, I think it would take away the design element I found interesting in the first place. I don't know what to do.

Je ne vous ennuie pas trop j'espère. Moi je ne m'ennuie pas du tout mais toutes ces décisions à prendre me font tourner la tête!

La nouvelle toile est très bien. 

Toutes les vraies robes portefeuille ont une fente pour laisser passer les liens et je me demande si je ne devrais en mettre une ou pas. Ça permettrait aux plis de rester bien plats et bien que j'ai l'impression que ça m'irait mieux, moins j'ai de tissu à la taille mieux c'est, je crois que ça enlèverait un des détails que j'ai trouvé intéressant originalement. Je ne sais pas quoi faire.

Otherwise, the back pleats open up when I move and I don't like it. I might remove them on top and pleat the bottom dart or reduce them or do a center pleat like on Anita's sketch (she is looking for testers), I don't know.

A part ça, les plis du dos s'ouvrent quand je bouge et j'aime pas trop ça. Je vais peut-être les enlever et garder ceux du bas ou les réduire ou faire un pli au milieu comme sur le dessin d'Anita (elle cherche des testeurs), je ne sais pas.

And last but not least, I have to redraft the front armhole. All this pulling on the bias is making it gape and that's not pretty.

Finalement, je vais redessiner le devant de l'emmanchure parce qu'à force de tirer dessus sur le biais ça s'ouvre et c'est pas joli.

The Wrap Dress - Step 4 / La Robe Portefeuille - Étape 4

Woah! This looks like a spaceship! I could go on an intergalactic battle with it!
I have made so many changes to this pattern that I thought it would be a good idea to make another muslin before I commit this to proper paper and fashion fabric.
As you can see, I'm running out of muslin material...
ps. The print is askew, I'm on grain.

Wow! On dirait un vaisseau spatial! Je pourrais livrer une bataille intergalactique avec!
J'ai fait tellement de changements au patron que je pense qu'il serait sage de faire une autre petite toile avant de tracer un patron et couper le tissu.
Comme vous pouvez voir, je n'ai plus de tissu pour faire des toiles.
ps. Je suis sur le droit fil, c'est le tissu qui est mal imprimé.
