I love sewing with friends. 

I love the chitter chatter and the sewing tips and tricks that get passed along. I love the hot tea and the cakes. I'll be doing this with my friend Armelle in a fortnight, so I am cutting a couple of projects for us to sew together. I can't wait.

In the meantime, you can go look at the collaborative work in progress of Annie Collinge and Sarah May which struck a topical chord in me. I would like to tell you that I put that picture up just because I love the print, I do, but I also chose it because it reminds me that some women have a very binding dress code and can't choose what to wear. 

I think about them everyday.

J'adore coudre avec des amies. 

J'adore le bavardage et les échanges de petits trucs de couture. J'adore le thé chaud et les petits gâteaux. C'est ce que je vais faire dans 15 jours avec mon amie Armelle alors je prépare des petits travaux qu'on  fera toutes les deux. J'ai hâte!

Pendant ce temps, vous pouvez aller voir la collaboration entre Annie Collinge et Sarah May qui m'a plu. J'aimerais bien vous dire que c'est parce que j'adore l'imprimé, ce qui est vrai, mais ce travail me rappel que des femmes dans le monde n'ont pas notre chance et subissent des prescriptions vestimentaires drastiques.
Je pense à elles tous les jours.

Found Installation Series - Jean Shin

Je viens tout juste d'apprendre 2 belles leçons : je ne dirai plus je verrai ce détail plus tard et coudre dans le but d'annihiler ma pile de tissus n'est pas une bonne idée, j'ai besoin d'inspiration.
Ce projet, à l'origine une petite robe courte en laine pour mettre avec un legging, a mal démarré quand au lavage, j'ai découvert que ce n'étaient pas 2 coupons de jersey de laine que j'avais acheté, mais un coupon de laine avec un trou et un coupon d'acrylique qui gratte...beuark!

En vérité, ma pile n'est pas si grande que ça, je n'achète pas de tissu si je ne sais pas quoi faire avec mais, j'ai quand même des visions cauchemardesques des accumulations de Jean Shin et je me suis dit que j'allais quand même essayer de faire quelque chose avec. C'est l'aspect 'quand même' qui m'a mis le nez dedans.

Je me suis fait une petite tunique ceinturée à manche courtes mais j'ai du compromettre un aspect ou un autre du design à chaque étape par manque de tissu et pour en ajouter une petite couche, j'me suis dit bah! je vais bidouiller le col après et, c'est un désastre!
Je ne vous montrerai pas le résultat, une catastrophe! Rappelez vous juste que l'inspiration doit être votre motivation.
J'ai mis ma machine au repos chez Singer pour sa révision annuelle et je pense que je vais faire pareil!

Sew Inspired

Found Installation Series - Jean Shin

I just learned 2 valuable lessons : when sewing, I will never say I'll fix this up later and, I need to sew inspired, stash busting is not my cup of tea.
This project got a wrong-footed start, I bought a two piece wool jersey coupon which after washing turned out to be one wool coupon with a hole and one acrylic coupon... yikkes!

I don't have a huge stash as I never buy fabric if I don't know exactly what I am going to do with it. The original idea, a mid-tigh wool dress to wear with leggings, was, quite literally, scrapped by this unsound fabric purchase.
I have nightmare visions that my stash is starting to look like one of Jean Shin's pile of found things, unmanageable, and I don't like to waste, so I thought I would try to make something pretty out of it anyway. It's the 'anyway' part that led me into trouble.

I opted for a very simple belted short sleeve tunic and had to compromise at every step because I didn't have enough fabric... and then I said : "I'll fix the collar later", which was the very last of a series of design, construction, sewing, ironing and handling mistakes I made throughout.

I am not happy with the result which looks amateurish. I won't be showing it to you, you will not learn a thing from my mistakes. Just remember to sew inspired.
I took my machine in for service, it needed a break... and so did I!
