Crafting : The Year Of The Bag

My ::verypurpleperson:: handbag

I haven't been sewing, I've been crafting.

Dragées bags

Though I sew to craft, in my mind, it's not the same thing. There are no fitting issues, construction is moot,  fabric is easier to work with, it doesn't involve much thinking and I can really knock'em off. It can also be very boring as far as problem solving goes, but they do make nice affordable gifts which is my intention here.

Another t-shirt re-fashion!

One year, I made Martha Stewart aprons, last year I made faux fur muffs and this is the "Year of The Bag". I started by copying a shopping bag I had with moderate success. I so wanted to copy the original, I French seam curved jean. Don't try this at home as the results will disapoint!
So I started looking for a bag I like and would use, which, took me some time. Here are a few free patterns I found which I might eventually make to break the monotony of making the same thing over and over again.
Both Butterick Retro Tie Bag and Wrist Bag look cool, all you have to do is give them your e-mail address and you'll be able to download it, Martha's Reversible Purse looks promising...
But for now, my fave of fave and the only one I have been making is verypurpleperson's which I have tested and love. I tweeked the construction method for the bigger bag to ease the pulling part because I added pockets and zippers inside for my phone, wallet and keys. So here is my first tutorial! Basically, I'm bagging the bag if you know what I mean, if you don't, write, I'll try to help.

Me-Made-May : The Update

I've been Sidetracked but it was a good thing. Look at those totally Kawaï bags. (They are gifts, but I can show them, the recipients don't have web access).
Frankly, it wasn't very interesting anyway, here is a picture heavy post, to catch up, nothing very particular about what I've been wearing, the weather was awful so lotsa layers involved, but today is beautiful, so I am wearing a wedding dress to celebrate! More on that later.

May 13th, Living Colour t-shirt refashion. My favorite, it got so much wear, I had to dye it again. BTW, I did see them in Paris in 91!

May 14th, 4 pannels skirt, t-shirt refashion.

May 15-16th, slow day at the ranch, Burda Kimono T refashion. Another concert I've seen, in Nantes in 93-94.

May 17th, another cut up t-shirt. I should count them!

May 18th, too cold for comfort, this is a wool Nicole Miller top that I lined in polarfleece for a job where I had to work outside in November. I am getting seriously depressed by this weather now...

I've made the skirt several times, if the weather holds out, I'll show you.

May 19th, Kenzo skirt I've talked about already.
That's it for now. Hope I didn't bore you. See you later!

Sidetracks II

Remember this post about me being sidetracked by Alexander Henry's Thunder Flower?
My crazy brother actually posted all of the US stash over.
So guess what I was doing this weekend? Not working on The Two Year Old Pants for sure!
I drafted men's pyjama pants and cut verypurpleperson's reversible bag pattern in red for me and a smaller version, 80%, for two little girls who have special days coming up.
I'm ready to fill the bobbins and lower my presser foot. Have a nice day!

Sidetracks

I just got sidetracked, so the Oscar De La Renta is not finished.
I was casually looking up fabric on the web and saw this : Alexander Henry's Thunder Flower. I thought OMG and then sent the picture to my niece who's really into Mangas and she said OMFG and I just spent most of my free time looking for this fabric because I realized it was from the 2009 collection, it's all kind of back order everywhere and we might not ever see it again. Etsy sellers, a good place to look for funky fabrics, once again came through with some yardage which I added to my US fabric stash.

I got 3 yards of the pink one, 2 of the red one and 3 of the blue one. I have lots of nieces and sisters so I need the yardage. I am thrilled.

Oooh! Meanwhile my brother, not wanting to be left out got me Wranglers for pyjama pants.
